This homemade whole wheat bread is not just absolutely delicious but also definitely healthy! If you’re like me, you’ll love this bread and won’t miss this high fiber meal. This bread is made from whole wheat flour and dates. And guess what? It turned out to be my favorite as well as my sister! This rich and divine bread is perfect for breakfast and any other time in the day. I believe that once you try this recipe, you’ll make this bread over and over again.
Recipe:

- Whole wheat flour 2 cups
- Melted margarine/butter 3 tbsp
- Yeast 2tsp (instant)
- Warm water 1 cup
- Sachet milk 2
- Brown sugar 3tbsp
- Dates 15 to 20 pieces
- Nutmeg 1/4 tsp
- Egg (little. Around 1 tbsp)
- Egg for brushing.
Procedure:
- Combine all the ingredients except the dates and mix properly.
- Knead for about 10 minutes then transfer the dough to an oiled bowl (pour little oil inside a bowl and use your hand to spread it round). Cover it and allow it to rise for about an hour.
- After one hour, transfer it back to your work table, punch down the air, add the crushed pitted dates and mix together. Form the bread shape and place it in a greased pan. Cover it and allow it to rise for another thirty minutes.
- Whilst it’s rising, preheat the oven.
- After the rise time is over, brush the top of the bread with egg and put it inside the oven.
- Depending on the temperature and oven/pan type, the bake time will vary. Around 35 to 45 minutes. Once a skewer inserted in it comes out clean, the bread is ready.
- If desired, after removing the bread from the oven, brush the top with butter/margarine.
Notes:
- I found out I had no honey available, so I opted for chocolate ganache and/or butter to pair with the bread. It was amazinggg! But honey is perfect! Or just butter is fine.
